I’m Jen – your friendly 11+ guide
Cambridge-trained teacher. 11+ specialist. Cookie-baking, Friends-loving tutor who believes every child deserves to feel confident, not crushed, by exam prep.
MY STORY
Even back in the days before smartphones and self-checkouts (yep, we all survived somehow!), I knew I was meant to teach.
After years of not-quite-right corporate jobs, I followed my heart — just like Rachel Green leaving Central Perk to chase her fashion dream — and retrained as a primary teacher.
I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a PGCE in Primary Education, and spent the next 13 years in Essex classrooms, mostly teaching Years 5 & 6 — right where the 11+ action happens.
Those years taught me that children don’t just need a teacher — they need a cheerleader.
Someone who sees them, listens to them, and helps them find the confidence to try, even when things feel tricky.
WHY I STARTED “LEARN WITH JEN”
Eventually, I wanted to do things differently.
School life was full of joy – but also pressure, deadlines, and data. I dreamed of a way to teach that put children’s thinking, confidence, and wellbeing first.
That dream became Learn With Jen – a calm, creative online space where families can prepare for the 11+ without the overwhelm.
Now I help children (and their parents!) feel supported and sure of what’s next – not stuck in a cycle of worry and worksheets.
Those years taught me that children don’t just need a teacher – they need a cheerleader.
Someone who sees them, listens to them, and helps them find the confidence to try, even when things feel tricky.
WHAT MAKES MY APPROACH DIFFERENT
Many tutors rely on drilling and endless practice papers.
My approach focuses on understanding before memorisation, because when a child truly understands a concept, confidence follows naturally.
I call it my PREPARE Method, and it’s at the heart of everything I do:

I specialise in helping children prepare for the CSSE 11+ Exam used by grammar schools in Essex.
